KFD: Kokee brushfire 70% contained, 1,300 acres burned

KOKEE (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kauai firefighters have made significant progress battling the brush fire in Kokee.

As of Sunday, the fires are 70% contained, KFD officials said.

Officials say approximately 1,300 acres have burned since the fire started Thursday.

Ground crews are still battling the blaze but Air crews suspended drops at sunset and resumed Sunday morning.

Officials say Kokee Road reopened last night but Waimea Canyon Drive remains closed.

Power to Kokee was restored Saturday, but lines were de-energized yesterday for safety reasons.
