HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaiʻi Foodbank will distribute free shelf-stable disaster response meal packs, known as survivor daily rations.

Distribution takes place from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Hawaiʻi Foodbank’s warehouse located at 2611 Kilihau Street, Māpunapuna.

The distribution is intended to help households strengthen their emergency food supplies and prepare for disasters that may disrupt access to cooking facilities, refrigeration or other essential services.

After Hurricane Lowell, residents on Kauaʻi and Oʻahu were left without power for extended periods and were unable to refrigerate or cook food.

Additionally, power was out for commercial retailers, further preventing access to food and water supplies. Hawaiʻi Foodbank is working to prevent further disruptions to households through distributions like this one.

The SDRs contain shelf-stable, ready-to-eat foods designed for use during emergencies. They are a lower-sodium alternative to traditional Humanitarian Daily Rations and are intended to accommodate a variety of dietary needs.

Each individual SDR pouch:

  • Provides approximately 2,200 calories – enough food to sustain one person for a full 24-hour period.
  • Contains vegetarian food, typically including two entrées and complementary items such as crackers or flatbread, spreads, snacks, beverages, utensils and condiments.
  • Requires no cooking or refrigeration. Each case contains 10 individual SDR pouches. Hawaiʻi Foodbank encourages households to obtain at least one case for each member of their ʻohana.

There is no limit on the number of cases a household may receive.

Individuals picking up cases for multiple households must present a separate registration QR code for each household.

The distribution is drive through only. Participants will need a vehicle for pickup. The Foodbank is not taking walk ups at this time.

Advance registration is required through Eventbrite. To register, visit Hawaii Foodbank’s Instagram or Facebook accounts @HawaiiFoodbank to access the link or visit hawaiifoodbank.org and click on the red emergency help button.
