HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The suspect in an hours-long standoff with police last week in Waianae made his initial appearance in court Monday on multiple attempted murder charges.

Howard Abraham, 50, has been charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder and one count of causing injury to a law enforcement animal after stabbing a police K-9 dog.

His bail has been set at $1 million.

Authorities said state deputy sheriffs attempted to serve Abraham with an eviction notice at his Uluwehi Condominiums residence on Thursday morning. The DLE said Abraham refused to allow the deputies into his residence and did not comply with their request to leave.

When deputies tried to enter the home, Abraham allegedly fired several arrows at them.

Authorities said Abraham then barricaded himself in the residence.

According to the DLE, officers made several attempts to take Abraham safely into custody. During one of those attempts, Abraham allegedly stabbed an HPD canine.

The dog is now recovering at home.
