HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo will receive $9.5 million in funding to help support campus facility improvements.

The funds were released Friday as part of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and will help support investment in the design and construction.

In a release announcing the funding, Senate Vice President Lorraine R. Inouye (Senate District 1 – Hilo, Pauka‘a, Papaikou, Pepe‘ekeo) thanked Gov. Josh Green for authorizing the funding release and for his continued support of investments in higher education and infrastructure on Hawaiʻi Island.

“The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo is an important part of our community and a valuable resource for Hawaiʻi Island,” Sen. Inouye said. “It plays a vital role in providing educational opportunities for our residents and preparing the next generation of professionals and community leaders.”

Officials said the investment will ensure UH Hilo can continue to provide a quality learning environment for students, faculty and the broader community.

Inouye added that she will continue to advocate for investments that strengthen UH Hilo and “provide opportunities for students to learn, grow and build their futures at home.”
