HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The man accused of stealing a vehicle and crashing into another in Kalihi has been charged.

On Saturday, the Honolulu Police Department said Tisan Betiru, 29, was charged with robbery in the first degree and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle in the first degree.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred Friday at about 6 a.m. when the victim, a 56-year-old man, discovered Betiru inside his vehicle.

When confronted, Betiru allegedly threatened the victim with a knife and drove off in the vehicle. No one was injured.

A short time later, officers responded to a crash near the scene and determined one of the vehicles involved was the stolen car.

Betiru was identified as the suspect and arrested.

His bail was set at $50,000.
