HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man died Sunday after police said he was hit by a vehicle while lying on the road.

The crash occurred just after 5 a.m. on N. Nimitz Highway near Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

Police said the driver, 64, was headed eastbound when he hit the pedestrian, 35, near the intersection of Lagoon Drive.

Police said the driver was not hurt and remained on scene.

Emergency Medical Services treated the pedestrian for multiple life-threatening injuries and took him to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

Police said speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

This is the 82nd traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared to 54 at the same time in 2024.
