Maui County Fair brings in more than 100,000 after hiatus
WAILUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) - After a six-year hiatus, more than 116,000 people attended the historic Maui County Fair.
It ran from Thursday, Oct. 2, to Sunday, Oct. 5.
Fair organizers reported that 28,588 people went to the fair on opening day, while a crowd of 30,000 attended the parade down Kaahumanu Avenue.
Organizers said that 26,538 people attended on Friday, 27,997 on Saturday, and 33,491 on Sunday.
Mayor Richard Bissen, who spearheaded the fair’s revival, praised the historic community event.
“This year’s fair wasn’t just an event. It was a homecoming,” he said.
Fair organizer and Festivals of Hawaii executive director Daryl Fujiwara shared similar sentiments.
“This year’s fair was about more than fun. It was about healing and remembering who we are,” said Fujiwara.
The fair included about 40 food booths and contests such as Baby of the Year and Student Art, along with award-winning performers and a variety of rides and attractions.
