Excitement builds for second night of Maui County Fair
WAILUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Maui County Fair kicked off its second night Friday, once again drawing in tens of thousands of attendees.
Parents like Lindsey Kong from Waikapu said the food is the highlight.
“We ate the patele laulau, and the poke,” she said. “It was super good. We’re coming back on Saturday for the baby contest.”
Others, like fourth-grader Kaleb Sim Tumacder, said he enjoys being part of his community.
“I’m at the fair, enjoying the time and just spending time with my family,” he said. “I like that our community gets together.”
Brothers Kuaola Garcia, 8, and Holokai Garcia, 7, won prizes playing games.
“I bought a Labubu,” Kuaola said.
Seniors from Lahainaluna High School, who helped run the Roselani Ice Cream booth, said it was special to see their community reunite after the 2023 Maui fires.
“It means a lot because everyone just spread apart after the fire,” said Kuuleihaumanaeha Balingit. “Honestly, it brings me joy that everyone’s back to this again, and sometimes I even see some of my old neighbors walking around.”
“I’m glad to be back here,” said Gabryella Salmon. “And it’s nice to help out Lahainaluna and our Papa Hula.”
The Maui County Fair continues through the weekend with entertainment, food, rides, and contests.
Parking is available at Queen Kaahumanu Center and Wailuku Garage for free with shuttle service.
Parking is available at Keopuolani Park, Kaiser Wailuku, the Cameron Center, Baldwin High School, or the Boys and Girls Club for $5.
Tickets are available for pre-sale at various locations, or cash only at the gate.
The county is also providing special boat rides and shuttles for Molokai and Lanai residents to attend.
