KANEOHE (HawaiiNewsNow) - The man who was killed in a high-speed crash on the H-3 Freeway on Wednesday night has been identified, authorities said.

The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 39-year-old Kevin Kauweloa.

Kauweloa was an employee at Queen’s Medical Center.

Authorities said Kauweloa was speeding down the H-3 when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a guardrail.

According to investigators, he continued driving before veering off the roadway onto the shoulder, up a grass embankment and rolling over several times.

Police said he was thrown from the vehicle as the car overturned.

The vehicle continued on and traveled down a second grass embankment where it struck a utility pole.

Subsequently, the utility pole fell onto the roadway and blocked multiple Honolulu-bound lanes.

Police said speed and alcohol appeared to be factors.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
