HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaiian Word of the Day is naupaka. Naupaka is a native shrub most often found in the mountains and near the shoreline. Naupaka is, arguably, most famous for its small white half-flower which grows abundantly on the shrub. There is a story of two lovers who, after being driven apart by their families, were exiled: the man to the mountains, and the woman, to the ocean. They became the two varieties of the naupaka plant, each with a half flower representing their broken love. The Hawaiian Word of the Day is naupaka.
