Ex-Army official to face federal bribery charges in Honolulu court

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An ex-army official is expected in federal court next week on charges that he took bribes to influence contracts for a project in Hawaii.
Carlos Duque was summoned to appear in Honolulu on Oct. 28th after being charged on three counts: conspiracy, receipt of bribe by a public official and major fraud.
Court documents allege he took more than $1 million dollars in bribes from two Florida based contractors, 59-year-old Brian Kent and 62-year-old Leonard Pick.
Duque was a civilian employee at the time of the alleged crimes.
In June, Kent and Pick both entered “Not Guilty” pleas for charges that they paid the bribes.
Duque is also accused of making fraudulent statements about the costs related to a contract.
Conviction of the offense would require the defendant to forfeit a property and any money from which proceeds are traceable to the offenses.
