EWA BEACH (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Police Department said speed is a possible factor in a deadly rollover crash in Ewa Beach that injured several others.

Officials said the two-vehicle crash occurred near the intersection of Renton and Fort Weaver roads at around 5:40 a.m., Saturday, July 12.

According to police, a 37-year-old man and his passengers, an 18-year-old man and a juvenile boy, were traveling northbound on Fort Weaver Road at a high rate of speed and crashed into a vehicle driven by a 72-year-old man.

HPD said the crash sent the vehicle driven by a 37-year-old man airborne and rolling over, which ejected the driver onto the grassy median.

Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead at the scene. His passengers suffered serious injuries and were taken to the hospital.

EMS took the 72-year-old driver to the hospital in critical condition, who was later pronounced dead.

At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.

The crash closed the roads, but they were reopened at 10:20 a.m.

This is the 43rd traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 19 at the same time in 2024.
