HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -Pearl City’s own Ray Cooper III defeated Waianae’s Zane Kamaka this evening in the first show of the new Pro Fighters League season in New York City via second round submission (rear-naked choke).
With the win, Cooper earned five points to skyrocket up the PFL welterweight standings while Kamaka, who missed weight on Wednesday, remains at zero points.
Cooper took the fight to Kamaka early in the first, taking his second cousin down the canvas and working from Kamaka’s ground.
After dishing out some solid ground-and-pound in the first round, Cooper picked things up in the second round and was able to take Kamajka down again and move past his guard.
Eventually, Cooper gained full mount on Kamaka who had no choice but to give up his back in an effort to stand back up only to have Cooper sink his arm underneath Kamaka’s neck for the rear-naked choke.
Kamaka tapped and the two Hawaii natives exchanged a few more remarks before settling their family feud with a warm embrace once the dust settled.
