She started a dog treat business while serving in Air Force

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (InvestigateTV) - An active duty Air Force member has launched a dog treat business that connects her military service with her love of animals.

Ameera McCray, an Air Force flight attendant, created Combat Chow four years ago after wanting to make treats for her dog Paige.

Each package of Combat Chow features a story about a veteran and their therapy dog. McCray donates $1 from every purchase to Dogs2DogsTags, an organization that trains service animals for veterans with PTSD or other physical challenges.

“It was a long journey. I knew I wanted our treats to take off an be out in the community and we just made it happen,” McCray said.

The business now sells products at Blanquart’s Rusty Gem Vintage Market in Belleville, where owner Christine Blanquart said the treats have been popular with customers.

“We sold out of this one first and she had to come in and restock after just one week,” Blanquart said.

McCray said her motivation for military service drives her business mission. She graduated with her MBA in April while maintaining her military duties and growing her business.

“A lot of support from my leadership, my friends, and family. But we are making it happen one day at a time,” McCray said.

The treats are meant to be a healthy option for dogs and get a seal of approval from her dog Paige.
