Monk seal pup gifted official Hawaiian name

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - This season’s newest monk seal pup was given his official Hawaiian name.

Keolanieleokamoanahinuhinuikamahinakulu, or Keola for short, was born to mother seal Lei Ola, or RH-48.

The pup’s full Hawaiian name was gifted to him by the students of Hauula Elementary School’s Immersion program.

The name, which is made up of three parts, translates to “the curious life of the shining ocean in the mahina Kulu,” which is name of the moon phase he was born during.
