BOSTON (WBZ) - A young girl was seriously injured on a field trip to a Boston zoo Tuesday.

Nissa and her three children did not expect to see chaos during their trip to the zoo.

“We walked like two minutes, right before it fell and it fell right behind us onto them,” she said.

Nissa took a video showing a tree branch she said fell right behind her on a zoo path.

When it fell, police said it struck a school-aged child and a woman.

“They were on a field trip with a school. They were walking by and the tree just fell right on her head and cracked her head open and one of the staff had a gash on the front of her head,” Nissa said.

The girl was taken to Boston Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

The woman who was with the girl was also taken to a local hospital.

“The rest of the kids that were on the field trip were terrified, screaming and crying. So there was a lot of chaos,” Nissa said.

Nissa said she is still shaken by what she saw.

“Hopefully, she’s okay,” she said.

A spokesperson for Franklin Park Zoo said staff members and emergency personnel responded when the branch fell on the child.
