HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Nearly $65 million is going towards upgrades at the Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport, according to DOT officials.

Officials say the FAA has awarded two grants to rehabilitate Runway 17-35.

Work, which includes crack repairs and remarking the airfield, will begin in October.

Earlier in the year, Gov. Josh Green said that a pothole that closed the runway at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport in January was a symptom of long-neglected facilities.

The project is scheduled to finish in Spring of 2026.
