Man, 25, arrested in connection with fatal shooting at Waianae Boat Harbor

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with fatal shooting in West Oahu on Tuesday, police said.

Police have identified the suspect as Rastan Brown-Castro. He remains in custody with a second-degree murder charge pending.

The incident happened around 11 am. at the Waianae Boat Harbor.

Brown-Castro is suspected of shooting 31-year-old Cheylo Perkins-Chongtim multiple times after an argument.

Authorities said Brown-Castro drove away from the scene but police caught up with him about two miles away, near the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center.

“He then ran from the vehicle but officers were able to apprehend him on a nearby beach,” HPD Lt. Deena Thoemmes said during a news conference. “Witnesses reported that the 31-year-oldictim and the suspect had an ongoing dispute. The argument escalated today and that’s when the suspect shot the victim multiple times.”

No word yet on the nature of the dispute.

Kim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, Waianae Intermediate School posted on its social media that the campus went into a “soft” lockdown, which means students and staff were kept indoors.

An investigation is ongoing.
