KO OLINA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Leeward Oahu officially has a new ambulance station in Ko Olina.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services held a blessing ceremony Friday afternoon for its 25th station.

The new ambulance station will expand EMS coverage and enhance emergency response capabilities in West Oahu, adding critical coverage to the area.

Honolulu EMS Director Dr. Jim Ireland and other Oahu leaders attended the ceremony in the new station at 12:30 p.m.

“Before the Ko Olina station opened, two EMS units in Waiʻanae and Nānākuli covered the area from Kaʻena Point to Ko Olina, with support from Makakilo,” Ireland said. “The new station strengthens our emergency response and helps maintain ambulance coverage when ambulance transports can take units out of the area for hours.”

Since station’s 12-hour ambulance unit officially began operations on Oct. 4, crews have responded to more than 150 emergency calls and transported more than 60 patients for further treatment.

The Ko Olina ambulance unit is expected to expand operations to 24 hours a day when funding and staffing allows.

The new EMS Ko Olina Station is located at 92-1047 Olani Street.
