2 zookeepers hospitalized following wolf attack

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WNDU/Gray News) – Two zookeepers were hospitalized after being attacked by wolves at the Washington Park Zoo.

Officials said the zookeepers were attacked Tuesday by two wolves inside an exhibit at the Washington Park Zoo.

The Michigan City Fire Department said crews found a woman outside the enclosure with severe injuries, including at least four bite wounds to her neck and limbs.

The second victim was found inside the enclosure with a wolf and had a less severe bite wound to the forearm.

Michigan City police said the attacks happened the day after another wolf died of natural causes.

The zoo is still open, but the main wolf exhibit will stay closed while staff monitor the animals and assess the situation.
