HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A woman has died days after Kaneohe crash marking Oahu’s 14th traffic fatality of the year.

Police said the crash happened on April 22 around 12:40 a.m., on the Likelike Highway, just after the Wilson Tunnel.

Investigators said a 17-year-old driver was traveling northbound with three passengers when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail on the right shoulder.

A 20-year-old woman who was sitting in the rear seat was ejected onto the roadway and taken to the hospital in serious condition.

On April 26, The Medical Examiner’s Office reported she later died from her injuries.

Another 20-year-old female passenger in the front seat was also taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The driver and a 19-year-old male passenger remained at the scene and were also injured.

Police said it is unknown if the rear passenger was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Investigators said speed, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to be factors.

The crash marks Oahu’s 14th traffic fatality this year, compared to 25 at the same time last year.

The investigation remains ongoing.
