Hurricane Lane prompts closures of Zippy's restaurants statewide
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Zippy's locations across the state are set to close in light of Hurricane Lane's approach — so load up on your zip packs while you can.
On Wednesday, Zippy's said the Kahului location on Maui will close at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.
All 22 Oahu locations will close at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Zippys in Hilo will follow the operational hours of Kuhio Plaza.
"The safety of our employees and their families is our foremost concern," said Paul Yokota, president of Zippy's Restaurants.
"With the closure of schools and government services, our employees need to attend to family matters at this time. Also, many of our employees rely on public transportation to get to work, so the shut-down of bus services on Oahu severely impacts the ability of our staff to get to and from work safely," Yokota added.
The chain will evaluate weather conditions and determine when it will be safe to reopen restaurants.
Zippy's is among the first restaurant chains to announce a statewide closure in advance of Hurricane Lane.
