HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Lucoral Museum is a hidden gem tucked away in Waikiki.

As owner Flora Lu explains, Lu is their family name and coral represents their jewelry-making business.

To visit, look out for a beige-colored building and a sign with gold trimmings along Kuhio Avenue. As you walk into the parking lot, there’s a jewelry stand to the right. The wall to your left is decorated with gemstones.

An elevator ride to the second level takes you to the museum’s entrance.

The first thing you see as you get off the elevator is a photo of Flora’s mother, Lu Hong Kui-Su. Her mom moved from Taiwan to Hawaii in 1977.

There’s a hall filled with Lu’s artwork.

“In her generation, women were not allowed to go to school,” Lu explained. “So beautiful Hawaii make her very creative and she found herself in Hawaii.”

Flora is one of 11 kids. The rest of the family joined their mother in Hawaii in 1982.

Lu passed away in 1986.

A few years later, Flora and her siblings purchased the building and opened up the museum in honor of their mother.

The museum is filled with hidden treasures, including, fossils, coral, and even a dinosaur egg.

“I have seven sisters and three brothers and we all in the same work. So we travel around the world. When we see unique stuff then we bring over to this museum,” Lu said.

The Lucoral Museum is located at 2414 Kuhio Ave. and admission is free.
