A car fire on Kamehameha Highway and Paalaa Uka Pupukea Road killed one person on Monday, according to Emergency Medical Services officials.
Firefighters responded to the alarm at approximately 6:30 p.m. When they arrived on scene, the car was fully engulfed in flames and the victim's body was completely burned.
According to HFD, the car was traveling southbound when it hit a large metal pole. Prior to the fire, a bystander had checked on the male victim, who was pinned, but there was no pulse.
The fire was under control at about 6:40 p.m.
Honolulu police have closed Kamehameha Highway in both directions from Kamananui to J.P. Leong Highway to investigate. City buses have also been rerouted.
