Units from the Honolulu Police Department's Specialized Services Divison were called to a home on Halolani Street in Ewa Beach on Wednesday night after a man who was reported to be armed barricaded himself inside.
Police sources tell Hawaii News Now that no hostages were involved, but some surrounding neighbors were evacuated from their homes as a safety precaution. Police declined to reveal exactly how many people were removed from the area.
Our Ramsay Wharton reports that the suspect, who sources identified as a man named Mark Char, was taken into custody without incident just before 5:20 a.m. on Thursday morning.
Hawaii News Now first became aware of the situation after receiving reports that a man who may have been in possession of a rifle or shotgun was involved in a confrontation with police. Crews at the scene were moved by police to a safe location that was "out of the line of fire."
Roads near the address on Halolani Street, including lanes on Auaha and Paliha streets, have been closed to traffic because of the increased police activity.
