WAHIAWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
One person was killed and six others injured in a three-vehicle crash that happened shortly after midnight on Wilikina Drive.
According to authorities, the victim who died in the crash was in a Jeep that burst into flames in the collision.
Police said the crash happened while several other vehicles were parked along the road.
"From what we understand, vehicles were on the shoulders of the roadway, I guess waiting out the tsunami," said Honolulu Police Lt. Robert Towne. He said a white pickup truck "came at what the witnesses were saying was a high rate of speed, crashed into the jeep, the SUV, that burst into flames. The jeep was then pushed into another compact vehicle and another truck."
Emergency services personnel said six others were taken to the hospital in serious condition. They included a male in his 20s, a 43-year-old woman, a male in his 60s, a female in her 30s, and two more women in their 60s.
Police arrested the driver of the pickup truck, Donald Halleron, 29, for negligent homicide and contempt. He has not yet been charged.
