HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A longtime Honolulu attorney has thrown his hat into the ring for the city prosecutor's job.
State Deputy Attorney General Kevin Takata announced Sunday he'll be running for the position.
He's been working in law for more than 20 years.
Just recently, he successfully prosecuted a public school employee for stealing nearly $15,000.
Takata says one of his goals is to staff the prosecutor's office with experienced attorneys.
"I will work to retain and attract skilled and dedicated, committed career prosecutors who know how to win major cases and who will train the next generation of deputy prosecutors who will keep us safe", said Takata.
Takata will be up against Keith Kaneshiro who is seeking an unprecedented fourth term as Honolulu prosecutor.
Defense attorney Myles Breiner pulled papers to run, but now plans to endorse Takata.
