Hilo gears up to greet returning World Series champs

HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi is scheduled to be among the friends, family and supporters at Hilo Airport when the Hilo All-Stars Little League team returns home Sunday evening.

The Hilo team defeated Rose Capital East Little League of Tyler, Tex., 11-1, to win the Senior League World Series in Bangor, Maine, Saturday.

The team is scheduled to arrived in Hilo at 7:40 p.m. Sunday aboard United/Continental Flight 1253 from Los Angeles. The homecoming will include a water cannon salute by Hilo airport state fire department crews, and entertainment by the Hawaii County Band.

"Hilo and the entire State of Hawai`i wants our champion athletes to know they have made us very, very proud," Kenoi said. "Their demonstration of determination, skill and sportsmanship was unforgettable. We also want to show our aloha for the parents, coaches and volunteers who supported this world champion team."
