LEILANI ESTATES, HAWAII ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -Hawaii County officials are responding to reports of a sinkhole in the Leilani Estates region of Puna on Thursday morning.

They confirmed there's a hole on Kupono Street, near where fissures and road cracks had opened during the Kilauea eruption last year. However, officials say did not detect emissions.

Officials do not believe the hole is related to volcanic activity, but they are working with Hawaiian Volcano Observatory as a precaution.

Ikaika Marzo, who became well known for filming and updating the community on last year’s volcanic eruption, posted on his Facebook page that a sink hole opened on Kupono Street.
