First Alert Forecast: Blustery trades will slow down by Wednesday
Passing trade showers
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Happy Monday! It will be a trade wind Tuesday!
Trade winds will stay moderate to locally windy through Tuesday, bringing the usual passing showers to windward and mountain areas.
Maui and the Big Island could see a little extra rain tonight into early Tuesday morning as a weak trough moves through.
Most leeward communities should stay relatively drier, although a few brief showers can still sneak through. Showers will favor the overnight and early morning hours, with improving conditions expected later in the morning and afternoon.
Looking ahead, trade winds are expected to ease starting Wednesday as a low-pressure system develops and moves eastward north of the islands. The latest forecast track has shifted the low farther northeast, lowering the chances for a significant increase in rainfall later this week.
However, there is still some uncertainty heading into Friday and the weekend. If the low tracks closer to Hawaii, we could see more widespread showers and a wetter weather pattern.
We’ll continue watching how this system develops.
For the beaches, north and west-facing surf will gradually ease through Tuesday. East-facing shores will remain a little rough from the trades before surf levels decrease later in the week. South shore surf will stay relatively small for much of the week, with a potential increase next weekend.
