HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two people were hospitalized after a Hālawa home caught fire Saturday morning.

The Honolulu Fire Department responded to 99-503 Iwaiwa St. just after 11 a.m. and found smoke and flames coming from a two-story home, officials said.

The fire was brought under control at 11:41 a.m. and fully extinguished at 12:43 p.m.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services treated a 47-year-old woman for smoke inhalation and burns, and a 67-year-old man for smoke inhalation. Both were taken to the hospital in serious condition, officials said.

The American Red Cross was called to assist three residents displaced by the fire.

HFD said Wednesday that investigators determined the fire was accidental.

Officials said the fire started in the living room when a candle ignited synthetic flowers and decorative cloth.

Damage was estimated at $1.016 million, including $986,000 in property damage and $30,000 in damaged contents.
