HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - After 180 days, the temporary dump site for Maui wildfire debris is still showing no signs of environmental impact, according to Maui County’s second quarterly report.

Officials say 300,000 tons of ash and debris from nearly 1,400 Lahaina properties have been dropped off at the Olowalu dump site.

The report says air quality remains safe, and there’s been no leaching into groundwater or waterways.

DOH coastal water quality monitoring will begin this month and include about eight locations from Olowalu to Kaanapali.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will provide its next report in 90 days.
