2 teenagers charged in connection with break-in at Hawaii Island school
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii Island police have arrested and charged two male teenagers in connection with a break-in at Waiakea Elementary School and Waiakea Intermediate School.
Officials said the break-in happened on Wednesday morning.
Police say two individuals were observed on video surveillance breaking a glass window and entering the Administration office at Waiakea Elementary School.
Officials say the two individuals removed several items from the office and caused damage when they sprayed the contents of two fire extinguishers, later determined to have been stolen from a shed secured within a fenced play court on the Waiakea Intermediate School campus.
On Thursday, one of the juveniles, 15, was brought to the Hilo Police Station after a family member identified him from video surveillance footage that had been posted on social media.
And on Friday, the second boy, 14, was turned in to the principal by a family member and then arrested by South Hilo patrol officers.
The boys have been charged with burglary, property damage, and theft.
Neither of the two juveniles charged in the case were students at Waiakea.
The investigation is ongoing.
