Confused about the city’s new COVID-19 restrictions? Here’s the full order

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - New restrictions aimed at limiting gatherings went into effect Thursday as part of a push to rein in a surge in new COVID-19 infections on Oahu.

The so-called “Act Now Honolulu: No Social Gatherings” order will remain in place for at least 28 days.

The city published the written order Wednesday afternoon. It bans social gatherings, asks employers to limit the amount of people at workplaces, and toughens enforcement of mask wearing.

It also limits groups to no more than five people at restaurants, museums and movie theaters. And it extends the closures of beaches, parks and bars on Oahu.

The order is causing no small amount of confusion because what it says isn’t exactly how the Mayor Kirk Caldwell presented it at a news conference earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Josh Green criticized the order, saying it doesn’t address the real need.

“I’m concerned that this fixation on playing the flute or singing in church is distracting from the real problem which is that there are 3,590 people with active COVID in our state and that’s going to be 400 hospitalizations. That’s where our focus should be,” he said.
