A dysfunctional family is a the center of a new comedy-drama called DEALING WITH DAD now showing for a week at the Ward Theater complex. The tagline for the movie is: “What if your dad was nicer depressed than well.” That’s the situation facing an adult daughter and her two brothers in this well acted independent film. Some of the comedy seems too much like a sitcom for my tastes, but the dramatic parts are convincing and all too real. DEALING WITH DAD is based on writer-director Tom Huang’s own experience with a depressed father. He knows that depression is not a sign of weakness; it’s a treatable illness. (Starting May 9, you can rent the film for $5.99 on Apple TV.)
