In the weeks after the Academy Awards show, there’s usually not much worth seeing in movie theaters. And this year’s no exception. But I did find two new films worth seeing online. In ALICE, DARLING stars Anna Kendrick as the victim of psychological abuse by her boyfriend. This very well acted movie clearly dramatizes how a verbally abusive man doesn’t have to be physically violent to do serious psychological damage to his partner. ($3.99 on Amazon)
Keira Knightley plays Loretta McLaughlin and Carrie Coon is Jean Cole in BOSTON STRANGLER, an absorbing drama based on the real story of the two newspaper reporters who investigated the brutal murders of 13 women in the early 1960’s. They persevered in spite of sexism in the newsroom and opposition from their husbands as well the Boston police department. (HULU)
