The 2023 Academy Awards Telecast happens this Sunday, March 12. Of the ten movies nominated for Best Picture, I would have voted for just two of them. EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE has been winning awards in most of the awards shows this season, so it’s highly favored to take home the Oscar for Best Picture. That surprises me, because although I enjoyed it when I saw it last April, I thought that most audiences would react by saying something like, “What the heck was that?” Because EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE is the weirdest comedy/drama I’ve ever seen, but it’s also wild, exhilarating, and full of creative marital arts action. It’s an exhilarating, mind melting movie. But it’s also a bittersweet family comedy/drama. If you have Showtime, you can see it at no cost. If not you can stream it online for $19.99. But you can buy a DVD on Amazon for $7.50. The only other movie nominated for Best Picture that I would have voted for is THE FABELMAN’S, a slightly fictionalized story of director Steven Spielberg’s early years. THE FABELMANS is a heart tugging comedy-drama that left me with a smile on my face. (Streaming for $5.99 on Apple TV, Amazon, Vudu)
