HONK FOR JESUS. SAVE YOUR SOUL is a new comedy-drama, showing in theaters and also streaming on Peacock. Unfortunately, the movie’s stars--Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown—are the only reason to see it. Hall plays the wife of a southern Baptist pastor played by Brown. Their mega church was once so popular it made them rich. But now their congregation has disappeared thanks to the pastor’s involvement in a sex scandal. And the movie chronicles their desperate efforts to win back the crowds. It starts off as an unfunny satire that turns into a heavy handed drama toward the end. These fine actors deserved a much better script.
The new movie called SEE HOW THEY RUN is both a comedy and a whodunit that was inspired by Agatha Christie’s long running play called, THE MOUSETRAP. It’s a silly spoof of the kind of murder investigation stories that are a staple of the movie business. Sam Rockwell is a hard drinking lead inspector who essentially plays straight man to Saoirse Ronan who is very funny as his clumsy and over eager assistant. SEE HOW THEY RUN has an overly complicated plot with too many characters, but if you’re looking for lightweight entertainment, it will fill the bill. (Only in Theaters)
