Oscar winning filmmaker Jordan Peele and Oscar winning actor Daniel Kaluuya team up for their second movie together since the popular horror film, GET OUT. This one is a big budget spectacle called NOPE. Peele says his new film is for people who don’t think they like horror movies. It’s about a brother and sister (Hollywood horse trainers) who own a ranch that is attacked by a UFO that behaves like a hungry monster. Shot in Imax, NOPE is a creative and entertaining blockbuster, full of tension, suspense, and some truly wicked humor. It’s not all that scary. But it is a weird movie that should keep you on the edge of your seat, and it has an ingenious, crowd pleasing ending. (Only in theaters)

A HAUNTING IN VENICE is the most recent of more than twenty movies based on the works of mystery writer Agatha Christie. Kenneth Branagh directs and stars as detective Hercule Poirot for the third time (after MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS and DEATH ON THE NILE). The movie is a modest entertainment given a lavish treatment. It’s got a great cast and creative cinematography, but the whodunnit plot is a bit confusing and a little hard to believe. It’s the kind of film you will likely enjoy but forget about in a few weeks. There’s more than a little supernatural suggestion throughout this movie, but to call it A “HAUNTING” IN VENICE is a stretch. This is an old fashioned murder mystery not a horror film.....
