Kameha‘ikana of ‘Ioleka‘a is believed to be a form of Haumea, goddess of fertility and childbirth. Kameha‘ikana craves kūhonu crabs and limu kohu, and goes to the shore of Ke‘alohi and He‘e‘ia Kea. While there, she fashions a lei po‘o of pōhuehue vine as a shield from the sun and returns upland. Today, pōhuehue grows both mauka and makai.
