Mele Ho'opulapula, Vol. 1 is a project of Kahuli Leo Le'a, bringing mele practitioners from various Hawaiian homestead lands, to record and perform live various songs for homesteads – mele ho'opulapula. The one-hour presentation features mele performances by Del Beazley of Nanakuli, Kihei Nahale-a of Keaukaha, the Napoleon 'ohana of Ho'olehua, as well as additional adorations for Kalaniana'ole by Manu Boyd, Maelia Loebenstein-Carter, Keli'i Ruth, and the Domingo brothers. Jonah Kahanuola Solatorio hosts these practitioners, along with Hailama Farden of Kamehameha Schools, and Tyler 'Iokepa Gomes of the Department of Hawaiian Homelands, to create a fragrant offering that honors Kalaniana'ole and 100 years of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act.

Tiki’s Grill & Bar in Waikiki is our first stop on this episode of Where Hawaii Eats, owner Bill Tobin and I sample some of their famous dishes, prepared by Executive Chef Ronnie Nasuti, and share some drinks in their iconic Tiki glasses. We head back to Outrigger Waikiki, with General manager Alan Hirano of Pesca Waikiki Beach. This new restaurant takes over the top of the Illikai, and we dine on some of the best dishes from their Mediterranean/Seafood menu.
