Terry Hunter reviews PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN

A critically acclaimed new movie called PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN is now showing in theaters and online at the same time. This is a serious but highly entertaining movie with a shocking climax, featuring an Oscar worthy performance by Carey Mulligan as Cassie, a troubled medical school drop-out who doesn't trust men and wants to punish them. Why? Seven years earlier she dropped out of medical school after her best friend Nina was sexually assaulted and almost nobody but Cassie believed her. Cassie develops ingenious schemes to punish the people who made her friend so miserable including the dean who accepted the the denials of the rapist. The masterful script and superb direction are the work of actress Emerald Fennell who delivers a strong message in a movie that many people will find irresistible. PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN costs $19.99 to rent on popular streaming sites which isn’t cheap, but it's still less than the $27 it would cost for two people see it in an Oahu movie theater.
