Terry Hunter reviews WORDS ON BATHROOM WALLS

Most Consolidated and Regal movie theaters on Oahu are open this weekend (a week before the end of August) and two Regal Cinemas are open on the Big Island. Most of the films being shown are popular films from the past at discounted prices. But three are brand new, and I can recommend one of them—WORDS WRITTEN ON BATHROOM WALLS which is a misleading title for a strong Hollywood drama about the struggles of a high school senior who’s diagnosed with schizophrenia. What I liked best about the film is the extraordinary performance of Charlie Plummer as Adam, the schizophrenic. But although I believe this film is well worth seeing, I watched it at home as a “critics only” online screener. I don’t feel safe going into a theater yet, so I’m not recommending that you do either unless you are comfortable doing that. During this pandemic, we all must do whatever makes us feel safe.
