Terry Hunter previews the free online Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival

All of the short films on the Rainbow Film Festival website are streaming for free all day every day through August the twelfth. Go to https://www.hglcf.org/ So far I’ve seen only five of the 20 films, but I strongly recommend three of them including the locally shot, KAMA’AINA, a drama about a 16 year old homeless girl on the Waianae Coast; PARENTAL GUIDANCE SUGGESTED which features questions real parents have about their gay sons and daughters. But the filmmaker has chosen to use puppets and actors’ voices to ask those questions. In just under 15 minutes, gay people answer nearly all the questions straight parents have. Plus, they offer some great advice. My third pick is WERE YOU GAY IN HIGH SCHOOL? in which two lesbians in their late 20’s talk to each other about how they didn’t realize they were gay until they tried to be with boys in high school.
