Terry Hunter reviews THE PHOTOGRAPH

THE PHOTOGRAPH offers glossy cinematography, a rich soundtrack, attractive actors, and a great jazzy musical score, but the romantic fantasy of its ending doesn’t live up to the realistic emotions of its dramatic setup. The movie tells two connected love stories starring black characters: one is about a present day professional woman who falls for a journalist and the other is about that woman’s mother who chose career over love 30 years earlier. For me, the mother’s story is more compelling but it doesn’t get as much screen time as the contemporary characters. THE PHOTOGRAPH isn’t a great movie, but its fine actors and polished filmmaking style make it a pleasure to watch.
