80 year old Robert Redford has been a movie star for over half a century, but he says that his lead role in THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN will be his last performance. Redford decided he wanted this final role to be based on a real person—Forrest Tucker, an aging bank robber. He learned about Tucker in a New Yorker article, purchased an option on the story, chose a writer-director and told him to create something fun that would make people smile. The result is an enjoyable lightweight fantasy with warm, charming performances from Redford and co-star Sissy Spacek.
