Obama arrives in Hawaii

HONOLULU (KHNL) - Senator Barack Obama is in Hawaii.  His plane landed at the Honolulu International Airport shortly before 3:00 p.m. Friday.

Obama arrived with his wife, Michelle and their two daughters for a week-long vacation.

Thousands of people turned out at Keehi Lagoon Beach Park to hear the Hawaii-born senator speak.

Obama told the crowd, the purpose of the vacation on his home island is to visit his 85-year-old grandmother and rest with family before the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

He says he plans to get a plate lunch and might eat at a Zippy's restaurant and Rainbow Drive-In. He also says he's going to go bodysurfing.

This will be Obama's only public event.  He has a campaign fundraiser set for Tuesday.
