Laid-off hospital workers to receive job training

KONA (KHNL) - Help is on the way for more than 100 Big Island hospital workers laid off last week.

At Governor Linda Lingle's request, the State is activating its rapid response team to aid former employees.

From skills assessment and counseling to a number of trainings, workers will get the help they need to find new jobs.

The Kona and North Hawaii Community Hospital cuts are the result of a $100 million deficit that the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation will face by the end of next fiscal year.

The job help sessions take place Thursday.
