(KHNL) - A former Punahou teacher is facing federal charges for engaging in sex acts with his students. 26-year-old Richard Neal Willetts is facing federal charges for engaging in sex acts with minors and for sexually exploiting children.
Federal prosecutors said Willetts victimized eight students at various schools. His first victim was allegedly a high school student in Hawaii.
According to his personal webpage, Willetts taught high school and middle school theatre at Punahou School during the 2003-2004 school year.
In 2005, Willetts began teaching at Western Albemarle High School in Virginia, where prosecutors say he engaged in sexual acts with two male students, then with another student at Fluvanna High School.
Prosecutors say he also used pictures of one victim to try and entice other students to participate in group acts.
According to testimony, the students may have been willing participants. However, prosecutors say this teacher was in a position of authority, making it a crime.
An enticement conviction carries a sentence of 10 years to life while the exploitation count could land Willetts behind bars for 15 to 30 years.
