MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII (KHNL) - One Marine is happy to be celebrating this Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends after returning from Iraq. He says he has a lot to be thankful for this holiday season.
Mike Wear is a staff sergeant with the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment. His job in military intelligence takes him to dangerous places. He has already been deployed three times in the past three years.
His most recent tour of duty was in Iraq. Mike says leaving behind his wife Julie and twins Kyle and Kaitlin can be difficult. But coming home, and seeing them at the airport reminds him what he's fighting for.
"I came through those sliding glass doors and I saw my wife and kids and she had made T-shirts. And they had signs holding up. It was real emotional. I think we all broke down," said Staff Sergeant Mike Wear.
"It's hard because you don't know what to say. You missed them so much but you haven't seen them for so long. It's an overpowering feeling," said his wife Julie Wear.
The family is grateful Mike is home for the holidays. They are spending Thanksgiving with family and friends on base. About 60 people gathered for today's feast.
